I just won 25 points on the SuperLucky Button!: Superpoints is a members-only club where you earn great rewards for doing things online like taking surveys, watching videos or shopping.

And here is an invite for you that starts you off with 25 points!

I hate my kitchen floor....

I have a very small kitchen...with a floor I hate.
I'm assuming this floor was put in about the same time the house was built in 1941 and hasn't been replaced since >.< Even if it has, no amount of baking soda or vinegar or elbow grease will make this stuff look clean anymore but I currently lack the funds to replace it.
Im going to go keep scrubbing at it and hope though.
What do you guys use to get your floors clean?
All natural stuff?
Chemical cleaners?
Elbow grease and hope?

Superpoints Redemption: My First $10

Well I got a little excited today when I checked my email, the $10 for that I claimed by using my collected Superpoints had shown up!
Instead of wasting resources and sending you a bunch of little plastic cards in the mail like some other places what I got was a code that, when entered onto my Amazon account, gave me a $10 credit to use towards future purchases. So as the year goes on I can collect these codes and come christmas time the funds will be there ready when I want to buy a present or two off of Amazon's site!

You should join too, who wouldn't want a little free cash now and then?

Frugal Living - Vinegar As Glass Cleaner

One of the first things I figured Id try to do to save money/environment when it comes to house cleaning is cleaning my glass with Vinegar and Newspaper. I've read about all sorts of cleaning concoctions for all the various rooms of the house but this seemed the easiest to start with.
I decided to try it on a door we have on our backyard patio area. Now I haven't cleaned these windows yet and we just moved in at the beginning of February, but the previous owners had this back room all covered in plastic to seal out the weather and they used it as a smoking room.
Window Before Vinegar
Now some places say to use a spray bottle with a mixture of vinegar & water but I just used straight vinegar since we already had it in a spray bottle for our french fries :P
After 2 rounds of spraying and wiping I got this result:
Window After Vinegar

I must say, I am quite pleased with the results. It was a little streaky after the first attempt but Im going to chalk that up to how-ever-many years of nicotine stains that had amassed on the window.
A word to the wise though, wear some sort of gloves when using newsprint for cleaning windows like this, my nails are still a little black around the edges from the ink.
So in the end I used probably less than .05 worth of vinegar and newspaper from the free issue we get once a week anyways. I ended up doing 2 patio doors and my front door and 1 window this way, and I plan on doing the rest of the windows in the house - well....the ones that we can get open anyways. Some are stuck shut, some are painted shut.....this house needs alot of TLC.

Home Made Pizza Dough (includes Recipe)

Todays  experiment was making my own pizza dough.
I always make my own whole wheat bread now, the Focaccia isn't going to bad (but next time it could definitely use more garlic) so pizza was the next step.

The crust turned out pretty thick, it is supposed to make either 2-3 12-inch pizzas or 1 deep dish depending on how thick you like the crust so with my little oven and the need to use smaller cookie sheets I just dumped the dough onto 1 pan and off I went. I love thick crust pizza anyways (Ill eat thin crust too...any pizza is good pizza in my book).
Now keep in mind I used my bread maker to do all the mixing work and I also subbed 1 of the cups of all purpose flour for whole wheat, make it at least pretend-healthy :)

Here is the recipe for you to try:

  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 3/4 cups bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
Add ingredients to your bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Choose the dough cycle. Remove dough and fit dough into pizza pans, forming a 1-inch thick edge.
Brush with a little olive oil or vegetable oil, then let the crust rise for 10 to 15 minutes. Spread with tomato sauce or toppings of choice. Bake pizza at 400° for about 20 to 25 minutes

My First Superpoints Rewards Redemption

So Im sure some of you are wondering if this Superpoints thing is legit?
I was pretty skeptical myself at first, Ive never really won anything off the internet before and those surveys some sites want you to do for points or cash or cards just never seem to generate anything worth taking all that time every day to fill out.

But here I want to show you that, for the 5-10 minutes a day I spend on Superpoints that it's really not all that bad. Gift Card Redemption
Now this is about 3-4 weeks worth of spinning their SuperLucky button. Im sure I could be raking them in alot faster for myself and anyone in the network above me if I had more people in my own network but I dont push it too much on people....I provide the information about it, the link to join this invite only page and some of my point wins are shown. So with only 2 people, I could potentially have $100 free-and-clear to buy something off Amazon as a christmas present? or maybe save it for their boxing week sales?
Either way, it takes small amounts of time and it's free money.

I'm cool with that.

p.s- Don't want amazon gift cards? They have the option of putting your redemptions into a Paypal account instead :)

I won? I WON!

Part of my daily ritual while baby takes his nap (besides inhaling a bucket of tea) is entering any little canadian sweepstakes I find while wandering about on the internet. Sometimes its on Facebook, or other Blogs and once in awhile its right on the manufacturers page....I figure, its free so why not!
In the past month of doing these entries on a daily basis I have won a few little odds and ends here and there. A Starbucks Giftcard for $10, a haircut from a local salon and a $10 gas card from Petro Canada is on its way...but today Ladies and Gentlemen I am excited. A little bit ago I entered my information on Ziploc Canada's Facebook page during their "Get More For Your Like" campaign - which we all know is just a way to get thousands of people to at least visit the page once - well lo & behold, I get an email today saying I have won a second prize of $100!!!!! I have already answered their skill testing question and signed the form that was emailed to me and faxed it off into the sunset.

And now every day I can sit and wait for a courier to show up with my check :D
Ill let you know how long it takes to get here :)

What Are These Superpoint Invites I Keep Posting About?

Let me start of by saying unless you're a celebrity or have 1000s of friends, it's going to take more than just a week to really see what SuperPoints has to offer.

The Basics

With SuperPoints, you earn points for doing various "tasks" which you can then redeem for PayPal cash or merchandise. 500 points = $5.00 cash. Superpoints is INVITE only.  Hence the links I post..
There are 3 levels.

Basic level - This is simple to do...just validate your email and fill out your basic information. This will give you 30 button pushes a day and will allow you to redeem your points for cash when you have 2,500 points.

Gold - You need to invite 2 people to SuperPoints and complete your entire profile, including a profile pic. This will give you 50 button pushes a day and allow you to cash out with 1,000 points. With this level comes new perks, including taking emailed surveys for points and when your friends win points, you also win their points!

Platinum - To get to this level all you need to do is invite 5 people to SuperPoints. At this level you now have 100 daily button pushes and can cash out at just 500 points! Like Gold, you'll still win when your friends win and can take surveys.

Ways to Earn Points

Lucky Button: This is in my opinion, the best way to earn points. Depending on your level, you get a certain amount of "pushes" of the button. Some pushes award points and even high-value invite links like the ones I post here.

Friends: As mentioned above, invite your friends! This is the fastest way to earn since whatever points they win, you'll get the same amount!

Videos: You can find videos under the "Earn Points" tab at the top of SuperPoints. This is also an easy thing to do...let a video play, walk away, and come back to points!

Emails: SuperPoints will send you random emails, sometimes daily, that contain points. I'm not sure of the highest amount, but the most I've gotten was 50 points. Couldn't be any easier!

Surveys: Every once in a while, you will get a survey emailed to you. I haven't received one of these yet but are usually worth around 50 points for each survey you complete. These can take up a bit of time though, so only accept the survey if you can do it. Otherwise, decline it so someone else can get the points :)

Google Doodle For Today Honours Akira Yoshizawa

As a cute little side note today, for those people who don't use Google as their search engine, they are honouring Akira Yoshizawa who is the grandfather of modern Origami.
Now I used to try and make some animals as a kid, tried following books on the subject in the hopes of making something more interesting than a pinwheel or a boat and it never worked out, but you really need to check out what this man could do with just paper.

Mommy Just Needs A Nap

Another early morning for us here.
Usually Peanuts is pretty good for sleeping provided he doesn't have a cold or is cutting teeth, but every now and then I have the crankiest baby in the world on my hands at 5am just for the heck of it.

To catch you up to speed...Since day 1 we have been a bed-sharing family and for multiple reasons - small living space, made it so much easier on us for night feedings and personally I rested alot easier knowing I could just open my eyes and check on him whenever I wanted.
Fast forward to the beginning of February when we moved into this house, he would still sleep with us at night but seemed content enough to at least nap in his crib for an hour or so during the day, so now since he is getting bigger and moving more in his sleep we are starting to make the slow transition to him sleeping in the crib at night.....with mixed results so far...we had a 5 hour stretch a few nights ago, then a 2 hour stretch and last night he came to bed with us since he was over-tired and extra cranky to begin with and I wasn't going to push the subject on a baby who was losing his little mind - I must have had some mommy-radar of some variety on in the back of my head forseeing a 5am feeding that would result in a still not happy baby as well.

One of the other things I find with him, if he is not in the best of moods, is the limited list of things I can do to calm him back to sleep and thats walk around with him....don't sit, don't bother trying the rocking chair and don't just stand and sway....walk. So after a few laps, and by that point some breakfast since he had been awake an hour I have a little guy who was finally content enough to pass out in his highchair with banana stuck to his face. He is now sleeping quietly up in his crib, Im slowly making my way through the first tea of the day and anxiously awaiting an afternoon nap.

How did the transition to crib work for you guys?

Rosemary Focaccia Recipe Attempt #2

Now I know a few days ago I posted some Focaccia I made using a recipe  I found while surfing around on Swagbucks awhile ago, and it tasted good but the cooking time they suggested was a bit off causing it to be over cooked and I thought the 1/2 cup of Olive Oil it required seemed a bit overkill so today after making my normal loaf of Whole Wheat Bread (recipe for that is a few entries down as well) I decided to try a new recipe.
Rosemary Focaccia

So far Im much happier with this one. Its not as heavy on the rosemary, calls for garlic right in the recipe and 20 minutes of cooking was *just* enough to have it come out golden.

Here is the recipe if you would like to give it a go:
1 cup lukewarm water
2 tablespoons olive oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons chopped garlic
1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary
3 cups bread flour
1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons chopped fresh rosemary

1. Place water, 2 tablespoons olive oil, salt, garlic, 1 tablespoon rosemary, bread flour and yeast in the pan of the bread machine in the order recommended by the manufacturer. Select Dough cycle; press Start.
2. Remove dough from bread machine when cycle is complete. Pat dough into either a 9x13 inch baking pan or 12 inch pizza pan. Use your fingers to dimple the dough every inch or so. Brush with remaining olive oil and sprinkle with remaining rosemary.
3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Cover focaccia with plastic wrap while oven preheats.
4. Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown. let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

I Love Cloth Diapers

After a slight mishap today with the water heater today ("no Mr.Repair Man, no idea how the release valve started leaking *cough*) I was able to return to my regularly scheduled laundry duties.
Today is cloth diaper day at my house.
I know, I know...I can hear you from here. They aren't that me.
As a first time mom I was determined to do all the best things I could for my baby and the environment even though in the back of my mind I was hesitant on a few things as well, the biggest one being cloth diapers.

Cleaning poop off bums *and* diapers? Blech.

Then I had a few conversations with a co-workers wife who happened to be a WAHM (work at home mom) whose business was catering to those who chose cloth diapering with products, information and a sympathetic ear. She talked me through the different diapering options I had, the endless different brands and prices ranges of these types of products and even the washing/caring for cloth directions Id need to be aware of. I was sold.

With Crystals help, and the selection she has at Nature Bumz, I have since amassed a collection of both AIO diapers - which are as easy to put on as a disposable diapers but are cloth so they dont contain any of the chemicals and other bad-for-baby things that your average disposable has hidden in them, and a pile of prefold diapers - which are the flat white ones our moms used to put on our butts but now come with super cute covers instead of those ugly plastic covers we'd have been wearing. The selling point for me was flushable liners....they look like toilet paper strips for diapers and they pretty much do just that, I peel this out of the diaper when its time to change my babies bottom and any poop that's there I can just flush away with the liner so the rest of the diaper can be thrown into the bin and await laundry day.

She doesn't stop at diapers either! She sells all sorts of safe & natural/organic items for the whole family. Nursing covers, body sprays, laundry soap, teething necklaces, jewelery and more.

If you are on the fence about cloth diapering I highly suggest you check out her site, talk to her on Facebook or twitter. If you are in the Niagara Region she will even give you are Diapering 101 in person!

Focaccia Attempt #1

Not pretty, but pretty tasty
Well here it is, my first attempt at making focaccia. Next time Ill know that:
-Regular sized cookie sheet does *not* fit in an apartment sized oven
-A little less flour since the dough wasn't as wet as depicted in the video I watched
-Cooking time in a smaller oven seems to be shorter

Here is a 25 point bonus invite for you to use on Superpoints

    Adventures in Breadmaking

I just recently purchase myself a breadmaker (Black & Decker) Got it on sale at Zellers about 3 weeks ago and its been great. The first few loaves I made turned out alright, I think it was a combination of recipe and cooking the bread in the machine itself that made them turn out a little dense for my liking but since those few I have since changed what recipe I use (Ill post it at the end) and now I use the machine only to mix and do the first rise, after that I transfer it to a bread pan and then bake it in my own oven. They have been coming out like a charm....until today.
Guess when you are trying to get baby breakfast and spray down a pan with Pam you *might* miss a few spots.
    The loaf stuck.
The top of it fell off like a muffin top when I went to shake it out of the pan.
But it's still the best tasting broken chunks of bread ever!

Now attempt #2...this time with feeling (and more Pam)

    Whole Wheat Bread:
    1cup warm water
    1/8 cup veg oil
    1tsp salt
    1.5cup whole wheat flour
1.5cup allpurpose or bread flour (depends what country you are in)
    1tbps of sugar or honey
    2 1/4tsp of dry yeast.

I use the whole wheat setting on my bread maker, or you can beat it to death by hand if you so choose.
I then take it out when it is done mixing and let it do its 2nd rise for 30 minutes in a breadpan.
350 in the oven for 30 minutes.

How to get hidden websaver coupons in 1 order.
Thanks to Save Big, Live Better for this handy little walk-through.

Burt's Bees Sensitive Skin Moisterizer and Facial Cleanser - Day 2 of my BzzAgent Review

This is going to be short and sweet since this time around I only used the mentioned in a previous post of mine (and its been confirmed with other Bzzagents that have received this product) the facial cleanser is leaving a waxy feeling on our faces that remains even after rinsing off. So this time around I went back to my previous facial cleanser - a bar of soap with clay in it I purchased at the Mitsukoshi store at Epcot. really do love Burt's Bees moisturizer so far. Its light, its frangrance-free and it soaks in quickly so Im not wandering about with a shiny face. The bone I have to pick today is the container it comes in, I'm not sure if its just mine or other people are having this problem but its "pump" type dispenser seems a little poorly made and I had a heck of a time getting the moisturizer out of the bottle. So a little suggestion Burt? Try just packaging it in some sort of squeezy type bottle and you are golden :)
